I Tracked Every Dollar AI Made Me in April 2026 – Raw Revenue Spreadsheet Inside

📖 2 min read

Total AI revenue tracked in April 2026: $4,847. Not projected. Not estimated. Actually deposited into my accounts.

I have been running an experiment since January – tracking every single dollar that AI tools and AI-powered services put into my bank account. No fluff, no potential earnings, just real transactions.

Here is exactly what happened this month, broken down by source.

The Revenue Breakdown

1. AI Content Services (Clients): $2,100

Three retainer clients paying me to create AI-optimized content. I use Claude and GPT-4o to draft, then spend 20 minutes per piece adding my expertise and data. Each client pays $700/month for 8 articles.

  • Time invested: ~12 hours total
  • Effective hourly rate: $175/hr
  • Tools used: Claude Pro ($20/mo), GPT-4o ($20/mo)

2. AI API Reselling: $1,340

This is the play I wrote about last month. I buy API credits at volume discounts and resell access to small agencies who do not want to manage their own keys. Pure margin business.

  • Revenue: $1,340
  • API costs: $410
  • Net profit: $930
  • Time invested: ~3 hours (support tickets + billing)

3. Affiliate Revenue from AI Tool Reviews: $892

BetOnAI articles reviewing AI tools with real usage data continue to convert. The top earners this month:

  • Midjourney annual plan referrals: $340
  • Cursor Pro signups: $280
  • Various smaller tools: $272

4. AI Automation Setup (Freelance): $515

Two small businesses paid me to set up AI workflows – one for customer support automation, one for invoice processing. Both were half-day jobs using n8n + Claude API.

What Actually Works vs What Does Not

Works: Anything where you are the expert layer on top of AI. Clients are not paying for AI output – they are paying for your judgment about what AI output is good.

Does not work: Pure AI-generated content farms. I tested this in February with a throwaway site. Google deindexed it in 3 weeks. The sites that survive have genuine expertise mixed in.

The Real Costs

Claude Pro: $20 | GPT-4o: $20 | Midjourney: $30 | API credits: $410 | Hosting + tools: $45 | Total costs: $525

Net profit: $4,322. On roughly 25 hours of actual work this month. That is $173/hour.

What I Am Doubling Down On in May

API reselling is the highest-margin play with the least work. I am adding two more agency clients next month. Content services are steady but capped by my time. The real scale play is productizing the automation setups into a template kit.
